You NEED to try this Frosted Lemonade Protein Shake! Made with just 4 simple ingredients, this refreshing treat is the perfect way to satisfy your taste buds – and hit your protein goals.

Inspired by the popular Chick fil A menu item, this protein lemonade is one recipe you'll have on repeat all Summer long.

If you're trying to get more protein in your diet, chances are you've enjoyed your fair share of protein shakes. The problem is – whether vanilla or chocolate – it tends to get a little boring after a while.

That's where this easy (and amazing) recipe for protein lemonade comes in. Made with just a few simple ingredients, this is a refreshing and delicious way to enjoy your protein.

Inspired by Chick-fil-A's famous frosted lemonade, this high protein version is a great way to enjoy it every single day. It's perfect for hot Summer days, and can even be made with sugar-free lemonade.

    Why You'll Love It:

    • New and refreshing. If you want to enjoy your protein shake in a new and fun way, this frosted protein lemonade is going to rock your world!
    • Easy to make. All you need is lemonade, protein powder, ice, and vanilla (optional). After a quick blend you're ready to enjoy.
    • High in protein. Depending on the protein powder used, this quick recipe contains anywhere from 25-30 grams of protein.

    Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make protein lemonade: protein powder, ice, vanilla, and lemonade.
    • Lemonade: There are so many great sugar-free lemonades on the market these days, but use whatever type of lemonade you like best. Whether diet lemonade, homemade, or a quick single serve lemonade, it'll work for this copycat Chick-fil-A recipe.
    • Protein powder: Use 1 scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder. My #1 tip for this is to use a good quality powder that you love the flavor of – the taste will not be hidden by the other ingredients, so it's important to use the good stuff if you have it.
    • Vanilla: This adds a little extra vanilla flavor and is highly recommended, but I have no problem skipping it if I'm in a rush.
    • Ice: You will need about 1 cup of ice – this froths up with the protein powder to make it "creamy" and thick without the addition of any ice cream, milk, or creamer.

    Equipment

Blender: I recommend using a personal blender like the Ninja Fit or the Beast mini blender. That being said, any high powered blender that crushes ice will work just fine!

How to Make a Frosted Lemonade Protein Shake

This recipe reminds me of the popular frosted lemonade from Chick-fil-A. It's creamy, refreshing, and the perfect way to switch up your everyday protein shake routine.

Adding lemonade, vanilla, protein powder, and ice to a blender.
    1. Add the lemonade and vanilla extract to a high-powered blender.
    2. Sprinkle in the protein powder.
    3. Finally, add the ice and secure the lid.
    4. Blend until the ice is crushed and the lemonade frothy. Taste and add extra ingredients according to your preference.

Top tip: If you like it extra creamy, try adding a splash of unsweetened almond milk or a small scoop of your favorite protein ice cream.

    Flavor Variations

With the addition of so many different types of bottled lemonades on the market (and many of them are available as sugar-free), the flavor variations are limitless.

    • Limeade: Swap the lemonade for limeade instead!
    • Strawberry lemonade: Either purchase strawberry lemonade or make your own by adding 2-3 strawberries to the blender.
    • Raspberry lemonade: Add ¼ cup of raspberries to the blender (fresh or frozen); you may need to add a little extra sweetener as raspberries can be tart depending on the time of year.

    Substitutions:

    • Sugar-free lemonade: Feel free to use your favorite sugar-free lemonade option! I use this most often and find no difference when compared to those that contain sugar.
    • Without bottled lemonade: If you don't have pre-made, you can make my single serving lemonade recipe as a base. I've done it many times and it works great!
    • Without protein powder: If you prefer, you can use a pre-mixed vanilla protein shake like Premier protein or Fairlife. I find this waters down the lemonade flavor a bit, especially since you will still need to add the ice in order to get that "frosted" texture.

    Notes

Note: The nutritional information reflects the use of full sugar lemonade. If you're using sugar-free or diet lemonade, the numbers change significantly.
Extra creamy: The ice and protein powder blend to create a creamy "frosted" effect, but if you like it extra creamy try adding a splash of unsweetened almond milk, coffee creamer, or a scoop of your favorite protein ice cream.
Sugar free: This recipe tastes great when made with bottled sugar-free lemonade (our favorite in testing was Minute Maid).
Flavor variations: Use different flavors of lemonade (strawberry lemonade, limeade, etc) to switch up the flavor, OR add ¼-⅓ cup of soft fruit to the blender (like strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, watermelon, etc).
Protein powder: This makes or breaks the recipe, so be sure to use your favorite vanilla protein powder that has a great flavor.

This is my favorite way to enjoy protein powder in the summer! It's not chalky - it's totally creamy and I can't believe it has protein powder in it.
